Living for Jesus and Justice

We were so pleased to be invited to hear Helen Paynter explore how “thin theology” can “church-wash” the racism and hatred of the extreme right. It was a sobering message. Helen, was has been among the most influential theologian researching this area, maintains her hope that dialogue and a “deeper theology” can help those caught up in this ideology find the authentic Jesus of the Gospels.

We appreciated the call to resist polarisation, but to dialogue with “moderates” from all positions, and critique the more extreme (and often hate-mongering positions) of our own positions.

If you haven’t made it to one of her lectures, our friends at Better Story have provided this recording of her lecture in January.

Helen’s second book is out later this year – a toolkit to help churches engage with the issues

We’ll be sharing more from Better Story who are working to counter the rise of Christian Nationalism through education, proclamation and dialogue, or Email them directly to find out more about their upcoming lectures and actions hello@betterstory.info
