Doxology: Radically Unravelling

A Doxology: Radically Unravelling

by Faith Van Horne

Lord, who is creating the new heavens and new earth

right here, in our midst,

Thank you for your radical intercession, and invitation—

Yes, radical, down at the root,

Where your Spirit broods in the dark beneath the soil,

Cracking open the hard shells of us, your scattered mustard seeds,

Unravelling us to root inside of you.

We will rejoice forever in what you are creating,

in all the corners you have planted us—

Queer joy in Manchester that rebels against extinction,

and shining rainbows over Birmingham.

Thank you for settling in the roots that let us build and inhabit homes for healing,

In forgotten corners of Cornwall and Swansea.

For agitating in us to provide for children so they are no longer doomed to misfortune,

Freed from dead-end borstals and homes of trauma and addiction.

We pray, Lord, keep us radical—rooted next to you.

Germinate in us and send us sunward, cracking up through tarmac, so we might

Feed the wolf and lamb, where the ox grazes safely with the lion, and no one is devoured.

Where harm and destruction have blown apart wind-rushed souls,

Grow us into mighty mustard plants that send out branches that nourish and empower,

Arcing toward justice on all your holy mountain.

Radically unravelling in You.

Thank you. Amen.
